Your address —

Which type of premises would you like to connect?

We only received the address you checked with nbn so we can continue your connection journey.

Will I need a new WiFi modem/router?

If you’re upgrading from FTTN to full fibre, your current WiFi modem may not work with the new connection. The good news is you have a few simple options.

Keep your current WiFi

If your existing equipment is compatible and still performs well, you may be able to keep using it.

Upgrade your WiFi router

A newer router can better match higher fibre speeds and improve WiFi performance around the home.

Choose mesh WiFi

For larger homes or harder-to-reach rooms, a mesh system can help improve WiFi coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about nbn plans, installation, WiFi, billing and support.

General

What the nbn network is, how it reaches your home, and how to check availability.

What is the nbn network?

nbn is Australia’s national broadband network delivered via technologies including FTTP, HFC, FTTC, FTTN, FTTB and Fixed Wireless. Your address determines the technology type and the plan speeds available at your premises.

How do I check availability and what technology I have?

Use our address checker to see the nbn technology serving your premises, the plans available at your address and whether a Fibre Internet Upgrade may be available.

Plans & Speeds

Choosing a speed tier and understanding typical evening speeds.

Which nbn speed tier should I choose?

Light internet use may suit a 25–50Mbps plan. Families, 4K streaming and gaming may suit 50–100Mbps. Larger households, creators and heavier users may benefit from faster plans where available. We publish typical evening speeds and use your confirmed address to help determine which plans are available to you.

Why can actual speeds be lower than the plan speed?

WiFi interference, router capability, the number of connected devices, busy periods and your nbn access technology can all affect speeds. A wired speed test close to the router is a useful first check if performance looks lower than expected.

Installation & Setup

What to expect for different technologies and how activations work.

Will I need a technician visit?

Some FTTP and Fixed Wireless connections may require an appointment if the required nbn equipment is not already installed. HFC may require an nbn connection box, while FTTC may use an nbn connection device. We’ll confirm what is required for your address as part of the order process.

How long does it take to get connected?

Connection timeframes vary by address and technology. Some existing services can be activated quickly, while new installations may depend on technician appointment availability.

WiFi & BYO

Router requirements, BYO WiFi and whole-home coverage.

Do I need a new modem/router or can I BYO?

You can choose to BYO a compatible device. FTTP, HFC and FTTC generally use a router with an Ethernet WAN connection, while FTTN and FTTB typically require a compatible VDSL2 modem/router. You can also select one of our WiFi options during the guided purchase journey.

How do I get strong WiFi in every room?

Router position matters. A central, elevated location can help, while walls, interference and distance can reduce coverage. Larger, longer or multi-storey homes may benefit from a mesh WiFi system or additional access points.

Orders & Billing

Contracts, fees and moving house.

Are there lock-in contracts?

Our nbn plans are designed around flexible month-to-month service. Any special promotion or offer terms will be shown clearly before you place your order.

Are there setup or activation fees?

Standard activations may be $0 for eligible addresses. If any non-standard work, equipment or delivery charges apply, they will be shown before you complete your order.

Can I take my nbn plan with me when I move?

Yes. We can check the nbn availability at your new address and help arrange the service required for the new premises.

Support & Outages

Quick checks and how to get help.

My internet isn’t working — what should I try first?

Check for an outage first. Then restart the nbn equipment, if present, and your router. If possible, test one device using Ethernet. If the service is still offline, contact us and we can help troubleshoot the connection.

How do I contact support?

We’re here to help by chat, email or phone. For urgent service faults, phone support can be useful so we can work through live checks with you.
