What to expect on installation day
An nbn utility box may be installed outside your premises.
An nbn connection box may be installed inside your premises.
The technician may need to drill or carry out minor digging to complete the fibre installation.
Someone over the age of 18 should be present during the appointment.
If you are renting, you may need permission from the landlord or property manager.
The technician will discuss available equipment locations before installation begins.
Where will the nbn equipment go?
Outside nbn utility box
- Usually installed on an exterior wall or near your property boundary.
- Must be in a safe, dry, ventilated and accessible location.
- Needs suitable access for nbn technicians.
Inside nbn connection box
- Installed inside your home, typically near a power point.
- Should be in a cool, dry, well ventilated area.
- The technician will discuss the available placement options.

The fibre installation normally involves equipment outside and inside the premises. The technician may need to drill or carry out minor digging and will need consent before beginning work. Someone over the age of 18 should be present, and renters may need landlord permission.
Equipment placement
The technician will discuss suitable locations for the outside utility box and inside nbn connection box. The indoor equipment should be placed somewhere safe, dry, ventilated, accessible and near suitable power.
If your preferred location is not available
You may be able to organise an appropriate pathway or registered cabling separately, or use ethernet cabling between the nbn connection box and the preferred WiFi router location.
