Fibre Connect
If your premises is eligible, you can request a full fibre upgrade through 1st Internet and WiFi. This remains the main pathway for moving customers from nbn copper to FTTP.
nbn is progressively moving eligible homes and businesses from the old copper-based services of Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) connections to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP).
The goal is a faster, more reliable and more resilient network with fibre running all the way to your premises.
FTTN and FTTC both still use old copper wire for part of the connection to your premises. A full fibre upgrade replaces that remaining copper section with fibre optic cable all the way to your home or business.
Full fibre builds for the future. It gives the network greater capacity, supports faster speed options and reduces reliance on ageing copper infrastructure.
Full fibre reduces dependence on ageing copper in the access network.
FTTP supports higher speed options than copper-based FTTN and FTTC connections.
Fibre is less affected by weather and environmental conditions than copper-based access.
Fibre gives the network more room to scale as household and business data needs grow.
Most fibre upgrades continue to happen when an eligible customer orders an upgrade through their internet provider. nbn is also introducing a smaller managed Targeted Upgrade program for selected premises.
If your premises is eligible, you can request a full fibre upgrade through 1st Internet and WiFi. This remains the main pathway for moving customers from nbn copper to FTTP.
For a smaller group of selected premises, nbn plans to manage the transition from legacy copper to full fibre with defined timeframes and customer communications.
Your address may already be eligible for a Fibre Upgrade, or it may become eligible in the future. Eligibility can vary between neighbouring premises, so the most useful first step is to check your exact address.
Check your address to see which nbn technology services your premises and which plans are available.
